Seedling Foundation: 1 Great Way Case Closed Software Helps Children

Supporting the Children on the Other Side of the Case: Case Closed Software and Seedling Foundation

At Case Closed Software, our work is about accountability. We build the systems detectives, analysts, and task forces use to investigate crimes, build cases, and put dangerous people behind bars. We’re proud of that work, and we believe in it.

We also know that when someone goes to prison, they aren’t the only one who serves the sentence. Many of the people arrested in the cases our customers work are parents. Their children didn’t commit a crime. They lose a parent anyway, often with little warning and no one to explain what happened.

That’s why Case Closed Software is proud to support Seedling.

About Seedling Foundation

Seedling is an Austin-based nonprofit that serves children with a parent in prison or jail. It began in 2005, when Austin ISD principals asked for help with a growing number of students who had a parent behind bars. Seedling answered with a simple, powerful idea: give each child a caring adult who shows up, every week.

Seedling mentors visit their student once a week during lunch at school. They play games, draw, talk, and listen. No judgment and no agenda, just a steady adult in a child’s life during one of the hardest times they’ll face. Matches often last two years or more.

The results speak for themselves. Over 20 years, Seedling has served more than 3,200 children and today has a presence in more than 125 Central Texas schools. In the 2024-25 school year alone, it served 506 children and awarded $58,000 in scholarships to eighth graders and high school seniors. It recently launched a program to keep supporting students through high school and beyond. Many of its former mentees are now in college or serving in the military.

Why We Give

At Case Closed Software, our philanthropy has always centered on children. We support organizations fighting human trafficking and those working to protect children from online exploitation through the ICAC mission. Seedling fits that commitment. Law enforcement protects children from people who would harm them. Seedling protects children from the hidden harm a parent’s incarceration can leave behind.

On October 26, Case Closed Software was delighted to make a donation to Seedling and was proud to be a sponsor of its annual fundraising golf tournament at Westlake Country Club in Austin. It was a great day for a great cause, and we’re grateful to the Seedling team for the work they do every day.
